Overview
The course focuses on children in the context of nursing practice. It equips students with the knowledge, attitude and skills required to care effectively for newborns, infants and children. Specifically, the course addresses key aspects of child growth and development; growth monitoring and evaluation; newborn care and management, as well as the causes, signs and symptoms, investigations and management of common disorders affecting newborns and children. This course will provide the student with an opportunity to use the Nursing process in the delivery of health care to the pediatric patient incorporating knowledge of common elements of Nursing and growth and development throughout the stages of childhood. The course in the program focuses on children and families as clients. It explores partnership with children and families, and introduces developmentally supportive care and family-centered care as frameworks for Pediatric Nursing practice.
